Supports in High School
Hi, I’m Merriam! There are many programs and systems of support available to you while you’re still in high school and as you’re preparing to progress into work or continuing education.

IDEA Information
The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) is a law that makes available a free and appropriate public education to eligible children with disabilities throughout the nation and ensures special education and related services to those children.
Resources
Below are some great resources if you need some additional support along the way.
- Pathways to Adulthood
- ADA
- NV PEP
- Magnet Schools
To facilitate positive outcomes for students with disabilities, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) requires that these students receive tailored supports and services through future planning. This process helps students set goals and develop the skills they need for adulthood. Learn more about planning for life after high school with this interactive learning module.
The Americans with Disabilities Act, (ADA) helps people by ensuring they have equal access to jobs, education, and other tools for independent living as they move from school to adulthood.
NV PEP (Parents Encouraging Parents) can work together with you, your family, your teachers, and professionals in the community to help you develop goals for life after school.
Magnet schools are special public schools that focus on certain subjects, like science, art, or music. They give students extra learning in those areas while still teaching regular school subjects like math and reading. Kids from different neighborhoods can go to magnet schools, and sometimes you have to apply to get in. Find out how to apply.
Living in the Community
The Administration for Community Living (ACL) was created around the fundamental principle that older adults and people of all ages with disabilities should be able to live where they choose, with the people they choose, and with the ability to participate fully in their communities.
