Military Exceptional Family Member Program

Support for military families with special needs family members is provided through the Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP). Although each Service has its own EFMP, they all serve the same essential function: coordinating the assignment process to ensure special needs families are not sent to locations that lack adequate medical or educational resources.

Military OneSource: Support for Military Personnel & Their Families

EFMP & Me: Office of Special Needs offers support, information and tools to assist EFMP families.

Department of the Air Force Family Vector: provides up to date information on many different EFMP support programs and services.

School Liaison Program Manager: Serves as subject matter experts to families, installation leadership staff, and commanders who assist with all local Pre-K through grade 12 school issues and special education challenges facing military children.

Nevada Disability Advocacy & Law Center

NDALC helps people with disabilities in Nevada by fighting discrimination and making sure their rights are protected. They offer free help with issues like education, employment, and healthcare. NDALC also teaches people how to stand up for themselves and works to make sure services and facilities for people with disabilities are safe and fair. They monitor, investigate, and use legal advocacy to make positive changes.

Centers for Independent Living

CILs advocate for the development of a network of programs, services and options designed to empower Nevadans with disabilities to live independently in the community.

The Northern Nevada Center for Independent Living (NNCIL) helps people with disabilities live more independently. They offer services like peer support, independent living skills training, and advocacy throughout Northern Nevada to help people reach their personal goals. NNCIL was created by people with disabilities, for people with disabilities, and provides most services at little or no cost.

The Southern Nevada Center for Independent Living
(SNCIL) provides free services in Clark County, Nevada, to help people with disabilities adapt to living with their disability and pursue the life they want. They work with individuals to develop and achieve independent living goals, empowering them to make their own choices, manage their lives, and take on social roles.

NV PEP

NV PEP (Parents Encouraging Parents) helps families of youth with disabilities succeed at home, school, and in the community. By working through collaboration with professionals, families and professionals can share high expectations for youth with disabilities and support their pre-employment goals.

Pre-Employment planning helps to prepare young students for their future. Services are based on students’ strengths and their needs. Consideration of the student’s preferences and interests are also important for successful pre-employment planning. Nevada PEP offers trainings, and guidance on pre-employment planning.

The NV PEP Calendar offers various events focused on supporting families of children with disabilities. These include youth meetings, family support groups, and webinars on topics like IEP development, bullying prevention, advocacy, and helping children succeed in school. Events are available in both English and Spanish, with on-demand trainings for flexible learning.

You can contact Nevada PEP for help. After filling out the form, a staff member will reach out to offer support and resources. You can also call them directly. The form asks for basic info like your name, phone number, and your child’s details.

Assistive Technology

Assistive technology helps people with disabilities reach their goals by providing tools that make everyday tasks easier.

The Nevada Assistive Technology Collaborative (NATC) helps people with disabilities access assistive technology to live more independently. NATC offers device demonstrations, loans, and training, allowing individuals to try and choose the right tools. They work with community partners to support informed decision-making and improve access to AT statewide.

The Assistive Technology (AT) Council helps make sure assistive technology programs meet the needs of people with disabilities. They work to promote independence and help people use technology to live and work better. The Council also supports the growth of assistive technology programs and gives advice to state agencies and other groups. They help everyone work together to improve services.

The Nevada Assistive Technology Resource Center (NATRC) helps people with disabilities find tools to make daily tasks easier, like talking, walking, or learning. They offer device demos, short-term device loans, and training on how to use the tools. NATRC also provides support for using assistive technology at school, work, or home, ensuring people get the right help to meet their needs.

ABLE Accounts

The ABLE National Resource Center (ABLE NRC) helps people with disabilities and their families learn about ABLE accounts. These special savings accounts let people save money without losing important benefits. ABLE NRC provides information on how to open and manage these accounts, compare different plans, and save for the future. Their goal is to help people with disabilities take control of their finances and improve their lives.

Healthcare

Healthcare programs support students with disabilities by providing access to services that improve their well-being and help them stay healthy. These programs offer assistance with medical care, resources, and support services that make managing health needs easier.

211 Nevada connects students with disabilities to a variety of local resources, including healthcare, housing, and food assistance. By calling 211, students and their families can get help finding medical services, mental health support, and other essential services that improve their quality of life.

The Aging and Disability Services Division (ADSD) helps students with disabilities by providing access to healthcare services, support programs, and resources for independent living. ADSD helps ensure students have the tools and services they need to stay healthy and thrive.

Medicaid helps qualified students with disabilities by providing access to free or low-cost healthcare services, including doctor visits, prescriptions, and therapies. Medicaid ensures that students get the medical care they need to stay healthy and succeed in school.

Transportation

Transportation options make it easier for you to get where you need to go. From ride shares to public transit and biking, there are many ways to travel.

RTC (Regional Transportation Commission) provides bus and transit services in the Las Vegas area. They have programs to assist people with disabilities in getting around like their Paratransit Service.

RTC Washoe provides similar services in Northern Nevada.

If you live in a rural community, such as Winnemucca, Pahrump, Elko, Ely, White Pine or Caliente, the RSVP organization’s Transportation Program coordinates door-to-door transport for young people with disabilities.

Neighbor Network of Northern Nevada (N4) connects Northern Nevadans for inclusive, community-based services, volunteer opportunities, and affordable transportation.

Nevada 211 can connect you with various transportation services like special needs transportation, senior rides, and gas money assistance. They also offer non-emergency medical transportation and help for those in rural areas needing mobility services.

VR Nevada can help their clients with transportation in many ways, from bicycles to special controls for your vehicle.
